Here are 3 Tips on Finding Time For YOU!

After having an emotionally and physically exhausting week, I knew something needed to give. Have you ever felt that way?? I have been traveling and working a lot. It got to that point where I went out with my partner to see a friend’s band play, parked the car and just wanted to bawl my eyes out. I wanted to curl up in the driver’s seat, cry and just sleep for weeks.

I was mad. Frustrated, exhausted and overwhelmed. So much of it came from this anger inside that knew, ‘THIS ISN’T ME’. I am a believer in good, beauty, possibilities and bliss!! There’s no crying in bliss!! …right?

The reality is, that our true bliss is often discovered through the honesty of our tears. We know that exhaustion calls us to find inner peace and rest, but we can’t seem to shake the other reality – that damn cycle we get caught in call the ‘busyness of life’! As a woman with 3 kids, a business, a relationship, home, etc… I know what exhausted looks like and what I can tell you, is that the most important thing you can do is LOVE you. Take time for you. MAKE time for you.

So, what is your YOU practice? What gets you grounded and able to call in the truth that sets you free? If you’re ever feeling low and stuck on ideas– here are a few tips for daily grounding in the eye of a storm:

1. Say NO. Being a people pleaser is something many of us have a subconscious, guilt driven desire to succeed at. We’d never want to actually have the title – we just want everyone to be happy and taken care of. This isn’t totally a bad thing, until we do it at all odds. Far too often, we sacrifice our health, time and well being just to keep everyone happy. From little things like over scheduling to much greater things like staying in a toxic relationship – we say yes, because we don’t want to let people (even ourselves) down. But here’s a little extra trick for you: If there is something you believe needs to be done – close your eyes and check how it feels. Do you feel good about it? Or do you feel heavy like there’s a fearful guilt and obligation battle going on inside your gut? Well – we are meant to feel light. And the right choice for you will feel right. Our true essence has a gentle voice that always pulls us toward the direction of our greater good. Go with it. You don’t have to fully understand it – but the peace and love you are left with will prove itself and in the end, you will be a more full person for the next thing you are meant to contribute to.

2. On that note, LOVE YOURSELF THROUGH EVERY BLOCK. I don’t care how you do it. Whether it’s through good company, a yoga class, going to bed early, making a cup of tea and sitting in silence for 5 minutes, prayer, affirmations… there’s really an endless list available to you here. Be creative and start thinking!! What makes you breathe deeper and feel rooted? For me, I have to be honest – of course, the normal things help, like being in nature, saunas and the like help immensely. But for me my top five are meditation, proper diet, exercise, laughter and sex. So there you have it. Every one is different – and as I write this, I realize that this point is probably mean to be a topic all on it’s own. (What do you think? Want to hear more on this?)

3. Give yourself a round of APPLAUSE. Because you’re pretty damn amazing. Look at all the things you’ve accomplished, the places you’ve been, what you’ve come through and how you’ve grown!! I’m proud of you and you should be proud too. We are so quick to take edit of ourselves. Both sexes stand in the mirror and rip there curves (and lack thereof) apart, we relive our setbacks and replay that moment in our day when ego took over and we used our ‘superior intelligence’ to over rule the people in our wake…. OK – not good but you also get the point. YES – you are a person with weaknesses and strengths. Sometimes you’re going to be on it and other times you just seem to fall down. But if I know you – you are also the one that falls and gets back up again. You already recognize where you could have done it better. So quit beating yourself up about it and learn from it. See where the compassion and patience can increase in your heart, while also seeing the abundance that already exists in you.

*BONUS TIP: VALUE YOUR SLEEP. This one is like accessing an extra super power because it can be used pre-emptively. I know for myself and many others, I just can’t function with my eyes burning, head aching and knowing that the only thing I want while I COULD be productive- is my pillow. Imagine if we gave a little more love to our pillows BEFORE our adrenals burn out? Trust me – arranging your schedule so you sleep longer a few nights a week will do you and everyone around you, well.

We are a race of beings that have incredible divine potential for love, expression, connectedness and abundance. I know that our modern life demands a lot, regardless of your status, nationality or religion. But no matter who you are or what your situation may be, if you are not connected to your true essence, then you will miss out on the greatest beauties in life.

External demands leave us feeling stressed, overwhelmed, anxious and frustrated. Internal connectedness allows us to see beyond the stresses of external demand and live through the experience in an awareness that not only sets us up for success but also leaves us in a state of divine gratitude. This is the beautiful cycle we should encourage.
